Installation view of the Hungarian Pavilion, Hajnal Nemeth: Crash - Passive Interview, Photo by Török Viktória |
I just found an article on www.artinfo.com about the nine best pavilions of the Biennale. The Hungarian Pavilion is on the list. It says that the work of Hajnal Nemeth (Crash – Passive Interview) and especially the sense of optical dislocation caused by the magenta lights make the Pavilion unique to the Biennale. We are all very proud I can tell.
I am thinking of my top 5 pavilion since we arrived home but it is not that easy to put a list together. Yesterday with the official photographer of the Biennale we talked about “The Future of a Promise – Contemporary Art from the Arab World” Exhibition as one of the best. The installations, video works, photographs and all other pieces are very moving. Especially the one by Manal Al-Dowayan: Suspended Together. This is an installation of 200 white doves - they look like flying doves but they are all still. And they all carry on their body a travel document of a woman. As I learned from the work all Saudi women who travel need a permission document from their male guardian. These travel documents in the work belong to real women. For me this was very shocking – permission to travel? In the 21th century?
The exhibition is in Dorsoduro. Don’t miss it!www.thefutureofapromise.com
