The museum has a
beautiful collection of historical and contemporary dresses. The headline
exhibition “A History of Fashion in 100 Objects” takes you for a real time
travel: clothes and accessories from the 17th century up to 2017. To
practice my French I asked for the French audioguide. J If you fancy you can also try their replica outfits –
it’s fun. To complete the look top hats, corsets are also available.
At the time of
my visit another exhibition was on: Royal Women. Dresses worn by Queen
Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.
I especially liked the cream chiffon day dress by Christina Dior worn by
Princess Margaret in 1952. To represent the next generation of royal women
another dress was also on display: the ensemble worn by HRH The Countess of
Wessex to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011.
This exhibition
can be seen until 28 April 2019.
I arrived to the
museum just in time before a wedding and while the preparation I could have a
look at the Assembly Rooms too. These rooms were designed to be a place for
dancing and they were completed in 1771. The 18th century
chandeliers are marvellous.
