Day trip to Bratislava

I have a friend with who we decided to make one day trips to different cities not that far from Budapest. This is how we visited Milan in one day by flight and Vienna many times by train.

The scenario is pretty much the same, waking up early – getting home late:
·         visiting a museum or the national gallery
·         having beautiful lunch
·         walking in the city
·         having coffee & cakes
·         buying gifts
·         getting (running) to the airport / train station.

Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia but I would say it’s more like a small and nice city. From Budapest only 2,5 hours by train and the journey is breathtaking: the Danube, the hills and valleys.

I have never been to Slovakia apart from crossing the Mária Valéria bridge once at Esztergom when my sister studied there. It was around 2000. They went to Sturovo every week to their favourite pub so once I joined them. It was a real time travel, almost like going back to the eighties.

With this memory I expected the same thing in Bratislava but (to be honest) this city was a real surprise. (Ok, to make it clear we visited only the old town.) The streets are clean, the buildings are renovated, the parks are kept well and people are dressed nicely.

Our timing was perfect with good weather so I guess we enjoyed the last ice cream of summer – while I am writing this it is raining there (as my phone says) and it is much colder than yesterday. Autumn has arrived to Europe.
